Our Team

Tom Aarts, Partner, co-founded the Nutrition Business Journal (NBJ), which is the “journal of record” for strategic information and market intelligence for the $58bn nutraceutical industry. NBJ has been cited in most of the national and regional major news media including The New York Times, Forbes, Time and The Wall Street Journal. He is also the Founder and co-chair of the NBJ/Newport Summit, the premier executive retreat in the Nutrition Industry.  

Tom has more than 20 years’ experience in management consulting, M&A transactions, investment analysis and market research.  In the nutrition industry, Mr. Aarts successfully managed the sale of Nutrition 21, a $20 million company, and has advised many of the leading companies in the Nutrition, Food and Pharmaceutical industries on their strategy and direction including GNC, Rexall, Nestle, Bayer, and Cargill. Tom received a B.A. from Colgate University and an M.B.A. from the Wharton School at the University of
Pennsylvania.

Loren Israelsen, Partner, began his career as General Counsel of Nature’s Way Products, Inc., and served in various positions of increasing responsibility, including president. While acting as Vice President of Strategic Development, he engineered agreements with Efamol Ltd., Madaus AG, and Dr. Willmar Schwabe, GmbH, to bring phytomedicines to the United States. He has been heavily involved in the ongoing political and regulatory issues facing the supplement industry, and has also served as industry liaison to the Food and Drug Administration’s Expert Advisory Committee to Ephedra and as advisor to the National Institutes of Health’s Office of Dietary Supplements.

Since 1992, he has served as Executive Director of the Utah Natural Products Alliance, which was instrumental in the development and passage of the Dietary Supplement Health and Education Act of 1994. Mr. Israelsen received his B.S. in Political Science, Magna Cum Laude, from Utah State University. He attended the Oxford University Queens College Jurisprudence Program in Oxford, England and received his J.D. from J. Rueben Clark Law School, Brigham Young University.


As Managing Partner, Nick Ellis brings his passion for personal well being to a daily commitment to build a healthier workforce. Previously, Nick worked as a public finance investment banker pioneering the use of clean renewable energy bonds. Nick holds degrees from both Stanford University (BA) and the London School of Economics (MSc). While at Stanford, Nick captained the men's water polo team to two consecutive NCAA championships en route to receiving the "Block S" award as one of the university's most outstanding male athletes.


Our Chairman, Paul Hannam, founded a successful technology recruitment and training business, as well as taught environmental business at Oxford University. In addition he has also written two books and works as an executive coach. He lives with his family in California.
