Senior Environmental Planner/Scientist at Global Design and Business Consulting Firm (Los Angeles, immediate start)

Position Overview:
The Senior Environmental Planner/Scientist will be based in the firm's Los Angeles office. The individual will have deep knowledge of the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA), the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), and the environmental practice and business opportunities in the Los Angeles Area and that would contribute to a variety of environmental, planning, and sustainability projects.
• Developing climate action plans and energy strategies associated with sustainability consulting and master planning projects (for the neighborhood and city level) including demand reduction and source strategies for infrastructure and buildings;
• Developing the business case for investing in renewable energy;
• Identifying technology partnerships for distributed systems and financing mechanisms;
• Directing and/or conducting research, calculations, data analysis, contributing to reports and client presentations related to a wide variety of project types associated with improving the energy profile of the built environment, organizations, or real estate portfolios;
• Liaising with technical experts within/outside of the firm (energy efficiency, energy modeling, commissioning, buildings systems, carbon management, and water and wastewater treatment);
• Tasks may include: leading technical and economic feasibility studies, directing master planning level evaluation of renewable and alternative technologies, cost-benefit analysis, development of energy strategies, advice on carbon trading and offsets schemes, GHG impacts analysis input to pro-forma, project management.
Skills and Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will bring the following qualifications to the organization:
• 6-10 years of relevant work experience in the Los Angeles Area;
• Experience preparing environmental documents to comply with either or both CEQA and NEPA and ability to lead or perform analyses addressing land use/planning; aesthetics; community services; population, employment, and housing; recreation; and other CEQA/NEPA topics;
• Technical understanding of planning requirements embodied in the California Map Act and related statutes, as well as development of General Plans, Specific Plans, and related documents with demonstrated experience to lead planning efforts;
• Demonstrated understanding of sustainability principles and how to incorporate them in planning and environmental projects;
• Demonstrated ability to prepare solid written reports, make public presentations, and to undertake agency liaison/community involvement efforts;
• Demonstrated ability to strategize and prepare proposals and to manage resulting projects;
• Masters of City and Regional Planning, Master of Science in Environmental Science, or equivalent.
• Exceptional communication skills and a demonstrated ability to lead teams;
• Excellent planning and organization skills to cope with a fast-paced environment;
• Highly motivated, proactive, and willing to take on new challenges;
