Sustainable Energy Consultant at Global Design and Business Consulting Firm (San Francisco, immediate start)--ID# 10272

Global design and business consulting firm with focus in buildings and infrastructure is looking for a Sustainable Energy Consultant to build a climate change practice and lead sustainability consulting projects. The successful candidate will lead a team with specific focus on developing energy strategies and climate action plans for a wide range of client types including corporate, government, and developers.

Roles and Responsibilities:
•    Developing climate action plans and energy strategies associated with sustainability consulting and master planning projects (for the district and city level) including demand reduction and source strategies for infrastructure and buildings; 
•    Estimating demand and supply, as well as advising on strategic energy planning--including determining the optimal power mix--for site conditions 
•    Identifying strategies to maximize conservation and efficiency (load reduction) at the neighborhood or portfolio scale (beyond building level analysis), with an emphasis on large scale sustainable developments and strategic energy solutions for commercial portfolios
•    Determining the optimal power mix for site conditions for district heating and cooling solutions; 
•    Developing the business case for investing in renewable energy and overseeing risk management for these solutions (base load, redundancy, reliability); 
•    Working with technical teams (planners, infrastructure engineers, environmental engineers) to develop sustainable energy solutions for large scale developments;
•    Identifying technology partnerships for distributed systems and financing mechanisms;
•    Directing and/or conducting research, calculations, data analysis, contributing to reports and client presentations related to a wide variety of project types associated with improving the energy profile of the built environment, organizations, or real estate portfolios;
•    Tasks may include: leading  technical and economic feasibility studies, directing master planning level evaluation of renewable and alternative technologies, cost-benefit analysis, development of energy strategies, advice on carbon trading and offsets schemes, GHG impacts analysis input to pro-forma, project management. 
  
Skills and Qualifications:
The successful candidate will be an experienced sustainability professional with experience in climate change policy and energy consulting. The position requires a wide breadth of knowledge and experience, and the ideal candidate will bring the following qualifications to the organization:
•    Knowledge of zero carbon solutions (solar thermal, PV, wind); 
•    Familiarity with waste to energy systems, such as biogas; 
•    Knowledge of relative costs and benefits, as well as life cycle costs of renewable power solutions; 
•    Undergraduate degree in engineering or other technical background with a focus on energy and a relevant masters degree; 
•    Project Management skills and strong written and oral communication;
•    Ability to develop proposals, strategies, and policies for high level clients;
•    Technical understanding of energy and climate change issues related to all facets of planning mixed-use sustainable communities;
•    Understanding of energy modeling related to load profiling and mapping supply to demand for various load types;
•    Knowledge of central plants and distributed generation;
•    Technical expertise around traditional and renewable forms of energy as applied at the district level;
•    Financial analysis skills (life cycle costing, cost/benefit analysis);
•    Grasp of markets and strategies for carbon offsets;
•    Understanding of rebates and incentives for financing;
•    Solid grasp AB32 and CCAR implications;
•    Solid computer literacy (PowerPoint, word, etc.);
•    LEED certification ideal, PE a bonus.
